After extensive team "testing" (also known as having a blast surfing hard) by Jai Glindeman, Taro Watanabe, and others, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the third addition to the Project Velocity series: the Precious!

The Precious—featuring a concave deck and stepped rails—came about when a friend asked me for a one-board quiver he could take around the world to enjoy great surf. "One board to rule them all" was the motto, and thus the name "Precious" was born (Lord of the Rings nerds will get it; the rest of you, don't worry).

I based it on the Gremlin—since that board is fast, versatile, and fun—but we wanted something sleeker with a more performance-oriented feel: less width and less bulky rails.

To achieve that while maintaining good volume, we opted for a step-deck design. This allowed us to keep foam throughout the board while simultaneously creating a responsive, high-performance rail.

The step-deck design naturally creates a concave deck, adding stability and sensitivity to the design; as a bonus, it seems to give you a little extra power boost when paddling. Building on the Gremlin's DNA, it features a flatter entry rocker and a subtle curve through the tail, facilitating acceleration, speed, and quick, responsive turns. The outline is narrower and more pulled-in than the Gremlin's, yet it maintains speed in slow or weak sections, allowing for better flow and effortless glide. The single-to-double concave bottom provides lift and drive without ever feeling sticky during rail-to-rail transitions, while the wide V-bottom in the tail makes it easy to put the board on rail, even at higher speeds. The Precious is easy to paddle, gets up to speed quickly, and retains an agile, powerful, high-performance feel that lets you make the most of any type of wave. Size your Precious a few inches above or below your height depending on your surfing ability, add ½ to 1 inch of width, and order based on volume rather than thickness—because the concave deck makes the boards look thin, even though they actually have more volume. Ride it as a tri-fin, quad, or even a 2+1 setup, and have a blast.
